All too often the development and management of automation in the enterprise is undertaken piecemeal, resulting in duplication, incompatibility, unfit-for-purpose solutions, etc. The driving concept of Enterprise Architecture is to pursue optimisation, not at the traditional fragmented level of individual business processes, but in the context of the whole enterprise, and to seek to best balance of automation and human work to make the enterprise agile and strategically flexible.
